West Coast Insurance & Voluntary Benefits - Friday, May 14, 2010
By: Peter T. Lyman, Voluntary Benefits Consultant

The passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act – commonly known as health care reform – has many American companies taking a closer look at the major medical insurance and related coverage they offer to their employees.

Voluntary benefits protection to your employees provides security and peace of mind and can help provide needed benefits to those who are sick or hurt. We want you to know that the need for and value of these products and services is unchanged by the reform, and you and your teams can rely on the voluntary benefits provided through The West Coast Insurance Agency..

It is important to remember that health care reform is intended to ensure that Americans of all ages and incomes are protected by credible, comprehensive major medical health insurance. Voluntary benefits policies are not major medical insurance. These products help your employees cope with daily living expenses and out-of-pocket costs associated with accidents or illnesses – costs major medical insurance was never intended to cover.

These policies pay in addition to major medical insurance. And because cash is always welcome in the event of sickness or injury, we know the protection voluntary benefits can offer will continue to be in demand.

As an employer, you should know that some of the changes resulting from the new law will go into effect in the next few months, while others will roll out over several years. And, if you or your employees want to learn more about health care reform, the Kaiser Family Foundation, healthreform.kff.org, is a great resource for information. The Foundation’s website offers general information about health care reform, a health care reform summary and a detailed implementation timeline. If you have additional questions about the reform, please contact us at The West Coast Insurance Agency.

In closing, No matter what changes come our way as health care reform is implemented, The West Coast Insurance Agency will continue as a beacon of hope for those who are counting on us to be here for them when they need us most.
